Having Difficult Conversations? Timing is everything

Some inspiration as a leader:

  1. What time in the day should/shouldn’t we have difficult conversations? For example, try not to have any difficult conversations on Friday afternoon because:

For a leader: in the afternoon, less capable of handling the difficult situation;

For the other person: maybe not in the mood for work and not psychological safety.

2. Can we wait? No, don’t delay a conversation because:

For a leader:

Avoidance means acceptance of the behaviour in question, ignorance of the situation, and distrust of a relation;

It is actually part of the leader’s responsibility to provide constructive feedback to people and teams.
